Cervical Screening (Smear tests)

Smear tests are offered to all women between the age of 25 and 65 unless the doctor feels you need this test for specific medical reasons outside of this age range. Usually, the nurse undertakes this test. The test should ideally be taken mid-cycle.

The current policy on smear taking is as follows:

  • First smear-age 25 then every 3 years until age 49.
  • Age 50 to 64, 5 yearly until age 64.
  • After 65 smears are no longer carried out unless you have had abnormal smears in the past.

If you are due or overdue for a smear test please contact reception to make an appointment.
