Travel Vaccination and Advice Service

We offer a travel vaccination and advice service here at the practice. If you wish to use this service we need you to complete a travel questionnaire and make an appointment with the practice nurse. We request that travel consultations be made well in advance, at least 6 – 8 weeks before you travel.

Non-urgent advice: Please note

We are not able to carry out any emergency vaccination programs if you don’t allow enough time before you travel, as our appointment availability will not allow for this.

Some vaccinations are free under the NHS and these will be offered and given to you in practice if the Nurses research indicates that you need them. However, some vaccinations and treatments are not covered and need to be obtained and administered on a private basis; these are not available in practice.

The Practice Nurse will advise you accordingly at the time of your consultation, but you will have to attend a private travel clinic if you need any non-NHS treatment.

To clarify what is available please see the lists below.

The private vaccines that incur a cost and are not covered by the NHS and not available in practice are as follows:

  • Japanese Encephalitis x 3 doses
  • Tick Encephalitis x 3 doses
  • Rabies x 3 doses
  • Hepatitis B x 3 doses including blood test
  • Meningitis AWC x 1 dose

The vaccines that are covered by the NHS and therefore do not incur a charge and are available in practice are as follows:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Combined hepatitis A and B
  • Typhoid

  • Cholera

If you wish to proceed with travel advice please complete the travel questionnaire which is available at the practice reception and make an appointment.

Services for carers

If you have responsibility for the care of another person please let us now so that our records are complete. This enables us to provide you with the best possible care.

Repeat Prescriptions

If you need a repeat prescription, please request this at least five full working days before you run out.

It is Practice Policy to only take repeat requests by the tear-off portion of your previous prescription, which is issued with your medication from the chemist.

We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the telephone, this is for patient and clinical safety purposes and also to free up the telephone lines for other requests or enquiries.

You can either post your request to us, place it in our post box at the surgery by hand, or order online using Emis Access (see the links on this website)

Unless otherwise requested your repeat prescriptions will be sent to the local chemist where they can be collected. We are now using Electronic prescribing, where your nominated chemist will electronically receive your prescription from your GP, this will enable us to track where your prescription is at any time.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time should you choose to use a different provider, just let the new pharmacy or your GP practice know.

Please note we are not able to send prescriptions in the post.

Private Medical Work

Some medical examinations, certificates, insurance claim forms, or requests for private letters, are not covered by the NHS.

This work will incur a charge, please ask at reception for more details of the fees involved for private work.

Practice Pharmacist

Our Practice Pharmacist is able to help patients with any medication related queries or issues. You can book an appointment by calling our reception team on 01270 811440.

Practice Link Worker/Social Prescriber

We are very pleased to be able to offer a Social Prescribing service to our patients as we feel that many will benefit hugely from it. Michael is here at the surgery every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to help with non-medical matters and health and wellbeing needs.

He has a lot of information about local services that are available and can help with any concerns you may have with regard to benefits, bereavement, exercise classes, carers facilities and mental health support, to name but a few.

If you wish to see Michael please make an appointment to see him at reception.

We also have a useful website https://nantwichandruralcarecommunity.org/ with a directory of local support networks and clubs that are available in the Nantwich and Rural area.
