Minor Operations

Some minor operations can be carried out by the doctor in the surgery. Please make an appointment with the doctor in the normal way for an assessment of your problem.

Maternity Services

We have a visiting Midwife every week from Leighton Hospital. In uncomplicated cases the midwife will do most of the Antenatal care here at the surgery.

You can also access maternity services at University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust if you prefer.

Pregnant patients are eligible for an influenza vaccination during the influenza season from September to January and a Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccination from 16 weeks. Please ask at reception for more information about these vaccination programmes.

Lithium Patients

Patients who are taking Lithium should receive a record card showing the correct levels and dosage of lithium you should be taking. This card needs to be handed in each time you come for your lithium blood test monitoring.

The doctor will update your card and return it to you once the results have been received.

In-house Physiotherapist

Our Practice Physiotherapist is available to see patients at the surgery for any new or current musculoskeletal problems. If you have any joint, muscle or ligament pain; back, knee or neck pain, our physio will be able to help you. Patients are able to make their own appointments with our Physio, who can also order tests and scans without the need for a GP appointment.

To make an appointment with the Practice Physio please contact reception.

Home Visits

Home visits are done for medical reasons only. Requests for home visits should be made before 10 am if at all possible, all requests will be dealt with by the Duty Doctor, who will either call you back during the morning to discuss your request and decide on the most appropriate course of action or call the see you at your home.

Health Checks

If you would like a health check please enquire at reception and they will book you in with a Nurse Associate.

Chronic Disease Reviews

Chronic Disease reviews include: Thyroid Disease, Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Epilepsy, Coronary Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Chronic Kidney Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, Atrial Fibrillation, Stoke, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Mental Health problems and Dementia.

You will be called for these reviews either by letter, text or telephone call and if you have several of these chronic diseases you will be reviewed for all of them at one appointment, so that you only have to attend once a year.

It is very important to review people with these problems and other chronic conditions at regular intervals. However, if you are unwell, do not wait for the annual review, but make an early appointment in the normal way.

Child Health Surveillance

Child Health Surveillance – what it includes

6 – 8 week developmental review

Appointments for consultations will be sent from the practice. These are undertaken by the GP.

Childhood immunisations

A letter regarding your child’s immunisations will be sent to you direct from the child health team. It is important that you call the practice to arrange an appointment for these vaccinations as soon as you receive the letter as these vaccinations need to be given at specific times in your child’s development (8, 12, and 16 weeks)

Cervical Screening (Smear tests)

Smear tests are offered to all women between the age of 25 and 65 unless the doctor feels you need this test for specific medical reasons outside of this age range. Usually, the nurse undertakes this test. The test should ideally be taken mid-cycle.

The current policy on smear taking is as follows:

  • First smear-age 25 then every 3 years until age 49.
  • Age 50 to 64, 5 yearly until age 64.
  • After 65 smears are no longer carried out unless you have had abnormal smears in the past.

If you are due or overdue for a smear test please contact reception to make an appointment.

Anti-coagulation (INR)

Patients who are taking warfarin as part of their treatment have their blood tests taken at the surgery. You need to bring your Anticoagulation Record Book with you for blood tests and when requesting repeat prescriptions.

There is also a service available in Nantwich.

Please ask at reception if this would suit you better.
